Facts for a trip to Croatia

I copied this article from a discussion about Croatia. The article was written by Vláďa, in my opinion very well. There is a lot of current information. Maybe they will come in handy for you too.

Facts about the trip to Croatia 2018 (FAQ)

Dear forum and travelers to Croatia,

I offer this thread as a set of facts that do not need to be discussed, but will help prepare the way. Please keep this thread informative without unnecessary comments. The addition of other facts is of course welcome. It will help the less experienced in particular, if they do not have to go through very developed threads full of emotions. Thank you for understanding. I will gradually supplement the facts.

Highway stamps in 2018

• Austrian and Slovenian stamps are affixed and are available, among other things, at pumps near the border and at border crossings. Austrian especially at OMV at no extra charge. The Slovenian stamp can be bought, for example, on the Austrian A9 in front of Graz at the tunnel toll booth, then at the Grall petrol station 15 km before the A /SLO border (they also communicate in Czech), then directly at the border (there are queues here). Furthermore, in our car clubs, travel agencies and exchange offices, but there they are usually more expensive. The place of affixing is marked on the stamp

At the Slovenian border A /SLO Spielfeld /Šentilj, there are large prominent signs that direct cars with a highway stamp (vinjetou) to the left lane, cars without a vinjety to the right lane and there is a point of sale where you can buy and affix a stamp. The next sequel is then completely risk-free. If someone passes the left lane without a mark, they take a risk.

• Hungarian stamps (matrix) are electronic, paid at the border or on the Internet[ematrica.nemzetiutdij.hu] . Nothing is pasted, you will receive a confirmation of payment stating the license plate (SS). The Hungarian motorway can be paid for in our ABA /UAMK branches and tourist centers.

• The Hungarian weekly stamp is valid for 10 days.

More information:

• Slovenian motorway A1 /A4 from Austria (Spielfeld) to Croatia in the direction of Zagreb is paid from the Austrian border. The roundabout at Maribor itself is not paid if you drive from a toll-free road. Attention, motorway feeders and H2 roads near Maribor are already paid.

• There are several proven and well-described routes for the Slovenian motorway bypass, including comments on the advantages or disadvantages of other fibers.

• There are 2 basic routes for passing through Hungary - the longer on the toll motorway M1 /M7 around Budapest or the shorter on the toll road M85, M86 in the direction of Szombathely. You can also drive the original unpaid 86 through Czorna. Driving on the M86 is really relaxing.

• In Croatia, tolls are collected based on mileage. At the entrance to the motorway, you will pick up your ticket and hand it in at the exit. It is advantageous to pay by card, there is a better rate and they can not rob you. They are obliged to accept the card at all toll booths. In front of Zagreb in the direction from the sea, the entire Demerje toll booth is reserved for card payments. It is marked CARD ONLY and is without waiting, unlike Lučko 2 km away, which is for payment in cash, marked CASH ONLY and there is usually a delay. The ENC toll booth is for electronic subscription holders (box).

• Beware of wet Croatian highways, they tend to be slippery. Otherwise, the quality of all SK, H, SLO, HR motorways is excellent.

• Brno-Vienna can be driven via Mikulov or on the D2 Břeclav-Poštorná. Both routes are roughly equivalent. Recently, it seems to be a more advantageous way through Břeclav due to the limitations of Nové Mlýny.

• On the way from Brno to Vienna, the A5 motorway is in operation from the Poysdorf bypass in Austria, which continues as the Vienna S1, S2, A23, A2 motorway bypass in the direction of Graz. On the way back, don't be fooled by the CZ signs in front of Vienna. Do not turn anywhere and stubbornly continue straight on A2, A23, S2, S1 and turn right after Vienna on A5. Otherwise you will drive well. The route to Brno on the A23, A5 is already correctly indicated on the A23

There are dozens of routes, from different places to different places, each with its own pros and cons and they are described in different threads. Of course, everyone chooses a route that suits them in all respects.

Speed limits and speeding penalties

In Austria, watch the camera on the windshield. It is not a holiday and is popularly fined. He also doesn't like to see navigation on the windshield.

Slovenia

Link to the map of toll motorways and roads in Slovenia:[www.dars.si]

Roads marked A and H are paid for. Vignettes are usually obligatory (however, they do not have to be obligatory in their entire length, this is indicated in time on the direction signs by a crossed-out symbol of a motorway or road for motor vehicles and it means "no vignette is needed on this road"). , even if it leads a short distance down the highway). If the road is marked G, it is unpaid, ie without a vignette.

The detour of the Slovenian motorway, as well as the journeys through Hungary, are described more here, it probably doesn't make sense to repeat them. Here is just basic information.

According to the latest information from the Slovenian motorway administrator (DARS), the missing 5 km section of the A4 Draženci (Ptuj) - HR (Gruškovje) motorway will be completed by the end of 2018 (perhaps).

On the issue of the sale of used stamps - on the website www.dars.si it is possible to read, among other things, that:

1. The vignette is intended for one vehicle only and is non-transferable between vehicles.

2. The vignette must be glued directly to the glass, the use of glue, various foils, adhesive tapes, etc. is not allowed

3. A fine of EUR 300-500 shall be imposed for breaches of the vignette application principle. Slovenians are starting to control the way the stamp is affixed and are fine.

It is up to everyone to consider the possible risk and shame. Arguments about an overpriced stamp do not stand up to the law.

Croatia

In Croatia, a limit of 0.5 per mille of blood alcohol is allowed for drivers over the age of 25, but there is a zero limit for drivers under the age of 24. If the presence of alcohol in the driver's blood exceeds 1.5 per mille, the driver may be sentenced to up to 60 days' imprisonment.

- The permitted speed on the motorway is 130 km / h, on roads for motor vehicles 110 km / h, outside the municipality 90 km / h, in the municipalities 50 km / h.

Attention: for drivers under the age of 24, the maximum speed limits are 10 km / h lower.

If you exceed the speed limit by more than 50 km / h, the driver can be sentenced to up to 60 days in prison.

For exceeding the speed limit outside the municipality you can get a fine in the range of 500 - 7,000 HRK, for exceeding the speed limit in the village you can get a fine in the range of 300 - 15,000 HRK and in the extreme case, as well as in case of non-payment, the misdemeanor court can pronounce the driver imprisonment for up to 60 days.

During summer time, there is no obligation to use low beam during the day.

It is forbidden to use a mobile phone while driving, except when using a handsfree.

For the transport of a child under 5 years of age, the use of a child car seat is mandatory.

The use of a safety helmet applies to cyclists under the age of 16.

In Croatia, increased caution is recommended when driving in the rain, as the bituminous surface of Croatian roads has a different composition than the Czech drivers are used to, and in the rain the road has similar properties to icing. It is especially treacherous when drizzle.

A warning vest for all passengers is a mandatory feature of the car.

Gas stations are usually open from 7 am to 5 pm, in the summer season until 10 pm, the main gas stations in larger cities and on international roads are open 24 hours a day.

There is a strict ban on spending the night in the whole territory in Croatia. This means that, with the exception of accommodation in a hotel, campsite, private accommodation, other accommodation is prohibited. Failure to comply with this regulation will result in tourists being prosecuted, prosecuted, fined or imprisoned.

Fuel prices are roughly comparable everywhere, it seems that the most expensive are in our country .....

To travel abroad by rented or company car, the driver should have the written consent of the vehicle owner (preferably in English) with a notarized signature. In the case of a company car, it is the signature of the statutory representative. The forms are available at www.uamk.cz

I'll be glad if this review helps.

Happy journey to all.

It has many attributes: solar, lavender, green, etc. Even without attributes, strong HVAR Island /strong is truly magical. /p p There is a ferry to the strong island of Hvar /strong from Split and Drvenik (Makarska Riviera). We recommend the one from Drvenik, it is shorter and about 3 times cheaper. We have been offering accommodation in romantic bays near the village of Gdinj for several seasons. There are no hotels, campsites, restaurants, cafes and there is not even electricity in some places. In one small shop you can buy basic groceries, wine, beer and even a special knife for mowing lavender. /p p strong The island of Hvar /strong is said to be the most beautiful island in Dalmatia. Traveler magazine ranked strong the island of Hvar /strong among the 10 most beautiful islands in the world: Anguilla (Caribbean), Bali (Indonesia), Borabora (French Polynesia), Capri (Italy), Hvar (Croatia), Kavai (Hawaii), Mykonos (Greece), Ponza (Italy) ), Upolu (Western Samoa), Zanzibar (Tanzania) - Traveler Magazine, May 1997). strong The island of Hvar /strong has an area of 299 km sup 2 /sup , the highest mountain is Sveti Nikola with an altitude of 625 m above sea level. /p p The Croats call this island Sunčani Hvar. The length of sunshine here reaches almost 3,000 hours a year. This is not only a Croatian but also a European record. Hvar has an extremely favorable climate, suitable not only for growing demanding subtropical crops, but also for recreation. /p p The tourist season begins in May and ends in October. The most beautiful is the island in June, when lavender fields bloom. It is most pleasant here in September - the very warm sea and thanks to the shorter days the tolerable daytime temperatures attract tourists from all over the world to the island. /p p On the island you will find developed tourist areas with hotel complexes and many services, but also beautiful bays far from the tourist industry. Our travel agency offers you undiscovered bays without tourists, empty pebble beaches, clear sea and untouched nature. /p p We believe that when you return from a holiday on Hvar by ferry back to the Makarska Riviera and see the crowded beaches and the sea greasy sunscreen, you will be as surprised as we are - why people squeeze here when it is only 30 minutes by ferry to paradise . /p h2 Island Hvar - Gdinj /h2 p The village lies about halfway between Sučuraj (ferry port) and Jelsa. Gdinj consists of several settlements (Dugi Dolac, Visoka, Bonkovichi, Bani Dvori, Stara Crkva, Vrvolici, Nova Crkva). Only old people remained in these settlements, the young went to cities for easier life. The greatest wealth of Gdinja are the Gdinj bays on the north and south side of the island. /p h2 GDINJ - northern bays: /h2 p Pokrivenik, Zaraca, Kupina, Lucica, Kucac, Pobij, Pakomina, Virak /p h2 GDINJ - southern bays: /h2 p Smrska, Raca, Kozja, Veprinova, Bočac, Rapak, Mali Rapak, Tvrdni Dolac, Torac, Soca, Lučica, Skozanje, Krivi Dolac, Jedra, Srhov Dolac, Medvidina. /p p In the bays there are smaller or larger pebble beaches, lots of greenery, clear sea, calm. In some bays there is a wide stony path, in some only a goat trail and some are accessible only from the sea. There is no electricity or water supply in most bays. If you are looking for paradise, you will definitely find it in one of these bays. /p [SUBMENU;sobrazkem:ano, stextem:pozn, typ:submenuv,]

h1 Island LASTOVO /h1 img src= https://www.yr.no/en/content/2-3196754/meteogram.svg width= 705 hspace= 3 alt= Weather forecast / [GALERIE;sloupce:99,vicefoto:ano,popis:soubor,] p The island of LASTOVO is the most remote inhabited South Dalmatian island. It covers an area of 41 km2 and has a permanent population of about 700. The highest mountain /rather a hill /is 417 m high HUM. The whole island is forested. There are about 40 other uninhabited islands around the island. Lastovo is one of the two most forested islands in the Adriatic /the other is the island of Mljet near Dubrovnik /. Thanks to 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, Lastovo is also one of the warmest and sunniest islands. /p p The island of Lastovo is one of the ten Mediterranean islands that are on the list of the World Wildlife Fund. /p p The Croatian government has declared the island, including the adjacent islands, a protected landscape area. /p p Lastovo is famous for its chimneys /FUMARI /. Minaret-shaped chimneys are part of every house. Thanks to the remoteness of the island, a completely unique folklore has been preserved /e.g. treasure burning. /p p The island belonged to Italy after the First World War /most of the inhabitants speak Italian /, after the Second World War it was returned to Croatia or Yugoslavia. Until 1992, the island was closed to tourists because there was a military naval base. Thanks to this, the whole island is completely electrified, there is a city water supply everywhere /the island has its own sources of drinking water /and asphalt roads almost everywhere. /p p The biggest advantage of the island is the minimum of tourist facilities, almost untouched nature, swimming in deserted bays /Lastovo is not mountainous and there is almost everywhere good access to the sea /and excellent healthy cuisine. Everything you eat and drink here was grown on the island or caught in the sea around the island /Lastovo is known for its wealth of fish /. On the small fields in the middle of the island, everything you need grows normally - without chemical spraying, fertilizers, etc. /p p Lastovo is ideal for pedestrians and cyclists /small elevations, roads lead through the forest /, for surfers /bays form so-called lakes - there is smooth water without waves /, for divers /the water is above average clean, lots of fish, diving school /. /p p If you are looking for peace, clean sea, unspoiled nature and excellent healthy Mediterranean cuisine, just something completely different than the others, Lastovo is the right choice. Lastovo is really completely different. /p p A four-day music festival /jazz, rock, blues /is held on the island every year in July. Musicians from all over Europe go to this festival. /p p There is a petrol station, bank /ATM /, post office, health center, several shops and relatively many restaurants in Lastovo. /p p The island of Lastovo is easily accessible by ferry from Split. The journey takes approximately 5 hours. The ferry runs daily, is air conditioned, has a restaurant and café. After a tiring journey to Split, you can relax on the ferry. /p p Discover the island of Lastovo with us. /p p Our tip: /p [SUBMENU;sobrazkem:ano, stextem:pozn, typ:submenuv,]
h1 Transit accommodation /h1 [GALERIE;sloupce:99,vicefoto:ano,popis:soubor,] p For relaxation on a long and strenuous journey to the sea, we offer transit accommodation in the towns of KARLOVAC and SLUNJ. /p p The advantage of accommodation in Karlovac is the proximity of the highway. We recommend this accommodation to guests who want to continue to the sea on the highway. Accommodation is only about 7 km from the highway and yet in the city so the guest has all the services available. /p p The advantage of accommodation in Slunj is both the proximity of the Plitvice Lakes National Park and the beautiful nature in Slunj. /p p KARLOVAC is located by the important A1 motorway, connecting the capital Zagreb with the sea. Karlovac is about 50 km from Zagreb, has about 60 thousand. resident. /p p Karlovac has many historical monuments and also many beautiful parks. /p p Karlovac is located between four rivers: Korana, Kupa, Mrežnica, Dobra. If you stay in Karlovac, you can take a bath in a natural swimming pool, go canoeing or rafting. /p p The largest Croatian brewery Karlovačka pivovara /Heineken Hrvatska /is based in Karlovac, and a large beer festival is held here at the turn of August and September. /p p More and more of our customers use transit accommodation in Karlovac. We recommend. /p p SLUNJ is a small town in the northwestern part of the Croatian hinterland, about 50 km from the town of Karlovac. It lies on the so-called old road to the sea. If you want to visit the Plitvice Lakes National Park, you have to take the highway in the town of Karlovac and continue along this old road to the town of Slunj and further to Plitvice Lakes. If you only go to the sea, this old way is an interesting alternative. The road is very good, shorter than the highway and free of charge. /p p There is beautiful nature in Slunj. The river Korana and the river Slunčica flow here. The confluence is formed by beautiful waterfalls. Around the waterfalls are wooden log cabins, formerly watermills for grain. The cabins have been renovated and are used for tourist accommodation. /p p On the river Korana /on the upper course it forms a system of Plitvice Lakes /there is a beautiful natural swimming pool above the confluence. /p p The river Slunčica springs from the ground about 10 km from the town of Slunj. It is very cold, swimming is not recommended. /p p If you want to see the nature park Plitvice Lakes, we recommend accommodation in Slunj. It is a short walk to Plitvice and at the same time accommodation is cheaper than directly at Plitvice Lakes. The advantage is also that you have all the services available in the city: restaurants, shops, banks, exchange offices, a petrol station, a doctor, etc. Every Thursday there is a big market in the city center. /p [SUBMENU;sobrazkem:ano, stextem:pozn, typ:submenuv,] .
